i was driving my 97 lxi sebring and it felt and sounded like it was running out of gas. i pullrd into a parking lot -took a look under hood- then tried to start it. it turns over but doesnt start. the has been to 2 mechanics and they could not figure out the problem. i had another mechanic check out the car to find out there is no spark to the plugs, or to the fuel injectors. there is no check engine light on when key is turned to the on position. is there some shut off switch to reset or something i should check?

i know the computer may have something to do with it but i want to make sure there isnt something im overlooking before i spend a large chunk of cash to replace the cars computer

hello, did you hit something from the front. there is a shut off swicth that cuts off the fuel pump and other things if you have a front end collision. There should be a re-set button somewhere - check your manual or go ask a service person from chrysler. It could be located in the front where people put their legs. It is usually marked with some form of marker or plastic cover or label to reset when you have a front end collision.

Many fuel pumps got replace because of this rest button.

Hope this helps you. Maybe you hit something and after a few days after - the effect takes place.

Chrysler's have a problem with distributors, get the # of your distributor and call a dealer. Also replace the crank sensor, that was my problem.

I have a 1997 Sebring lxi and when i'm going up the road my

car will blank out like it is about to shut off. But when I

come to a red light or a stop sign it will cut off, but it

will start right back up. I have changed distributor, plugs

and wires, and no shop can find the problem not even the

chrysler place. Have anyone experienced this problem if so

My trunk floods (like 2 feet of water) My car was covered with a water proof top. It has leaked in the past I believe from the back drivers window but nothing like this. I also took out the 10 plugs from the sides of the doors, but it still leaks inside on the floor board back and front and it sometimes accumulates under the drivers seat. You can only imagine how it smells right now....like straight from Katrina.

I've had the car about one year. I couldn't get it registered at first because it failed emissions. It sat for about one week, then I had to charge it as the battery had died...the reason for the failure of emissions. I was told I would have to run it about 100 miles or so to get the computer to start up. When I started to take it out to drive, the seat belt was broken. So how do you drive a car without registration, a tag and without seat belts for over 100 miles. By the way, it is a red convertible with a white top.

I'm about to give it to a charity, but the title isn't available as I still owe money on it. and can't get it registered. I bought the car to drive on occasion, and I've found it needs to be driven often. I guess it could be donated for parts.

Does anyone have any ideas? I don't think I'm prepared to put more money into it with the problems especially the roof. I do not have a garage.

if it completely doesnt turn on you should not rule out the possibility it can be an ignition problem. Have you checked that possibility out.

I have a 2000 Sebring JXI wont start. I first tried to start it ran it ran for a few seconds and stopped. Tried 2 more times same thing. The fourth time it would not even turn over. Plugs and valve cover gaskets changed a few days ago. My Key is a duplicate .Could it be the Key a anti theft device. ECG sensor.Hall effect device.fuel pump or plugged gas cap vent. I just bought it used with 140, 000 miles on it. I cant afford to take it to a mechanic especially after reading all the bad stories on these cars.

I have a similar stalling problem. My 99 JXI V6 will just shut off like it is running out of gas. It feels like it is running on 2-3 cylnders just prior to it shutting off. I will not start right away , but if I wait 2-3 minutes it starts like nothing happened. I may fail right away or it may not. Also, when this happens I have some bad fumes and gray to black smoke coming out of the exhaust. But that goes away after the car starts. Anyone have the same exact problem.

Normally The Black Smoke problem will occur due to the fuel over flow inside the Cylinder. At the starting position the engine will take more fuel and the produce the slightly blackish smoke. If the smoke is more and full dark color means fuel may be over flow inside the cylinder.

you just check your car km/l check the fuel injecting nozzle. If it is damaged means replace it.

If your car wont start, listen first if the gas pump is working, open the switch and you should her it for about two seconds, if its working check your starter relay, on the front fuse box, when you try to start the car you should be able to hear a click in the relay.

also check for spark in the spark plugs, if not maybe it will be your fuel filter on the xli is dirty, is on the back of the gas tank on top, unbolt the two stras, the tank will lower enough to take the filter out buy a new one, if you see it but you dont want to take it off, don`t` hit it, some of the dirt might go to the injectors and clog them. hope it works.

1999 sebring jxi. 20 amp ignition fuel starter fuse (located next to ecu in engine) keeps blowing out when key is turned. car starts on 30 amp but sometimes blows out also. I know there is a short somewhere but i have no idea where to start the pin pointing. Anyone know of this problem? Thank you.

I am having the same problem with my 1997 Sebring convertible as talon is having with his 1999. I have had the car checked by a Dodge dealer service department, but they were not able to find the cause of the fuse blowing. Their solution was to put a 25A fuse in place of the specified 20A fuse. This worked great for about 4 startups.

My daughter drives this car and I need to find a true solution! I plan to spend the weekend troubleshooting. If I can find a free wiring diagram online, I will send you a copy..

Please share any responses you receive in answer to your posting. I will do the same from other forums.

I have a 97 Chrysler Conv. I have had some of the same problems that some of you have mentioned. If you cut a key you have to get it progammed by the dealership as it will only start the car for about 10sec and then shut off. My car had the same shutting off problem and hesitation. Found out that it is the ECG valve, the TPS (throttle posotion sensor) and the throttle body needs cleaning, and fixinf these things are not cheap. The only problem now I have with the car is the water leak that I can't seem to fix. The chrysler dealership told me that it was the rear window leaking and need to replace the top for 1100.00. I guess that I will have to live with the leak unless someone have a solution for the problem. Hope this helped someone.

I have a 1999 Chrysler Sebring JXI convertible. All the electric in my car is working except the radio. But the car won't start or take a jump. The lights, and power sears, windows and locks still work, but the car will not start or turn over. Can someone please help me. I just had a new battery put in.

I have a 98 Seabring Jxi Convert. and I have a similar problem as above. Car will not turn over however everything works and is fully charged, but turn the key and all idiot lights come on but will not turn over. Any ideas??

pull off the timeing cover and see if your chain/belt snap or skipped a tooth i was working on a car had similar problems chased the no spark/fuel problem until realize it becase if the timing belt is snap the computer get no signal to tell the computer when to fire spark or dump fuel

My 2000 Sebring Convertible wont start. I turn the key and nothing happens, not a click or anything. Also, I cannot open the car door lock using the remote. Nothing electrical is working. I first thought it was the battery, but I cannot even jump start the vehicle. Do you think it might be a fuse or something to do with the remote keyless entry?

I have a 98 Chrysler Sebring.

For those with a car that won't turn at all, it is most likely your starter. The location of the exhaust pipe (which gets really hot) is close to the starter on some models. There are several tests you can do to be sure before you replace it, ask a local mechanic or go to an Autozone or Advance Auto Parts store. There are several possibilities including distributer, alternator, spark plugs or cables, crank shaft, battery, starter, or several fuel, belt or sensor issues. The checks for each possible electrical issue are tedious, however replacing a part that will not fix the problem is much more expensive. Obtaining trouble codes helps in identifying which particular problem it is, so look into this first. Mechanics most likely run through the same troubleshooting process as you will, so it is essential that you attempt to find out the type of problem you are dealing with. If you can tell them only that it won't start, there is a range of issues that might be the cause. Try and eliminate what you can beforehand, and communicate to the mechanic what you think and why. Pin-point the area of the issue and proceed from there with as many checks you can.

97 Chrysler Sebring convertible my car will run fine but will usually act up at night time when I have the lights on it will stall and not restart and display CCd on the trip gage if I disconnect the battery it may or may not start after a hour or so it will restart I have brought it to AAA Car Care Plus and they cant find any codes, any suggestions of Possible causes

I am getting the same CCD message on the trip display of my 1999 JXI Convertible. My car was overheating and I noticed that the fan was not running. I replaced everything; slow and fast relays, fuses, fan assembly. Thinking that I had my problem licked I try to start the car and nothing. Help!

Check your EGR valves on the 2.5L

Make sure they are connected right so you don't get the shake.

I have a 97 sebring that won't start. Strong spark on #2, no spark on #4 and no spark or irratic spark on #6. All fuses seem ok. Good compression across the front 3 cylinders. Also, there are no codes when the key is on.Not sure what to check next.

I was adding water to the reservoir tank with a water hose,

the tank overfilled and splashed water every where.

The car was on, but when I check the spark plug to see if it got wet, the car turned off, now it does not want to turn on

what happened? do I need to take to the mechanic or should I wait until it dries

I have a '96 xli. First it would cut off the engine while I was going down the road and then start back up before I knew what was going on. Now it stays shut off but will usually start back up after a couple minutes. Seems to act up more in stop and go traffic.This morning it did it again except it was dark out and I found out that the lights ( even the dash lights ) go down to a dim glow when this happens, but after a few minutes it is like nothing was wrong. The longest it went without starting back up was approx. 15-20 minutes. HELP!!!

1997 Chrysler Sebring convertable - Will not start?

Key appears to function except starter does not engage,

Cluster lights do not come on, Radio has lighted time with no radio and no CD. No codes, no sounds. Good battery, electric windows work, electric locks work, lights work except turn signals, hazard signals work. Everything was fine when parked.

Please, anyone have help?

I have a 1997 Chrysler Sebring convertible only owner. Has little over 60 thousand miles on it. I take very good care of it. It has just started at times not wanting to start. Just plain dead. I try for a few times to turn it over and then it will start. No pattern to it at all. Had it look at and no one has any idea. It does not do it all the time but I am not sure when it will happen. My 97 Sebring Convertible trip computer worked until 2years ago when I started getting CCD appearing. I recently replaced the computer and low and behold the replacement has the same CCd message appearing. Somepne please help.

Hello I have a 1996 Sebring v6. It will not start. Instrument panel lights up, lights come on, but it does not turn over. just does nothing with the key turned. I pulled the starter but it checked out to be good. Cleaned the connections and still nothing will not even boost off. I was going to change the cable out and still will. I bought a starter relay and found where its supposed to be under the center counsel but its not the same. Is there another place the relay could be? Only other thing I can think to try is changing out the ignition switch. Do you have any suggestions?

I JUST bought a car from a buddy of mine about 2 days ago. Car was VERY well kept clean inside and out. Tonight I was trying to start it and its not turning over. All I get is "click" "click" when I turn the key. Everything turns on like the radio, lights, even covertable top. Its not the battery because I had that checked and its STRONG. What could it be??

I have a 1997 sebring convertible JXI and the car has gone into "theft mode", horn blowing, lights flashing and I cannot get it to go off using the remote. my door locks never did work with a key so I can't insert the key to try to stop it. I have to take the battery cable off to get it to quit blowing. Anyone know how to tell me to get it out of theft mode so I can start the car? My car has run good for over 250, 000 miles on original engine and one new transmission in 2002. It has been a great car.....
