I have a 99 Jeep grand cherokee limited. While I'm driving down the freeway at about 60mpg and I let off the gas to slow down the rmp's will increase over 3 and then fall drastically. it's almost like the transmission is slipping but it gives off quite a jolt. I don't know if a tranny flush will help or if I need an all new transmission. Also if I accelerate very fast it it slips between 1st and 2nd gear but if I accelerate at a normal pace it's fine. Anybody know what's going on?

I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, with the 6cyl. engine. My problem is the torque converter. Between 45 & 55 MPH the engine keeps downshifting. when this happens i lose power, RPMs drop. It will do this until I get to the 55 MPH mark.I can feel this shifting under my seat. This does not happen in stop & go driving. It will happen on the highway, every time. i have brought it back to the dealer where we had purchased the vehicle ( used in Nov. 2007 )several times. I have an extended warrenty on the vehicle. So far I have spent about $600.00 on parst that were not covered on the warrenty ( fuel filter, torque converter pump, fluids, gaskets ). Problem still exist. i am being told by the dealer that this is a normal condition on some Jeeps. I will not bring the Jeep back to this dealer. Note: I also have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee, that I purchased from this dealer. no problems out of the ordinary. Is this normal? or do I smell a lemon.

i have a 1995 jeep grand cherokee limited and just recently started having trouble with the tranny. No warning! It was fine one minute, then the next time I went to pull off it was straining to move. Then I started to do it manually starting from 1 and it pulled off just fine, then when I shifted to 2 it would not change gears. Put it in D and it shifted but not into the last gear. RPMs go up to 3 @ 60mph. I have noticed that my overdrive isn't working anymore either. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I have a 1999 jgc with 97000 miles on it. 3 months ago I had to replace the speed sensor. Everything worked fine. Now I have the same problem and it's not the sensor. When in drive it shifts at 2000 rpms and only once. It shifts hard. The code comes up for the sensor and/or internal problem. Do I need a new trans?

I'm working on a friends 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Lerado with a 4.0 4X4. It will not shift out of 1st gear. He took it to a tranmission shop, and they run some tests on it and told him that the governing pressure switch is bad. they also said that it would be a good idea to just put a new transmission in it. He got a remanufactured trans. through a local parts store and I put it in. Guess what, it still will not shift. I put a new speed sensor in it and it still will not shift. i also played with the relays by moving them around in the fuse box and that didn't do anything. Do you have any idea's????????

I have a 2005 Grand Cherokee Laredo and took it in to the local dealer when the check engine light illuminated. It was also leaking tranny fluid. They "fixed" the problem.

Now, I have a check engine light on again, immediately after leaving the dealership. It's a Transmission Over Temp error code. The tranny shifts fine, the fluid level is good, the fluid is clear with pink tint (no burn smell).

I took it in again to the dealership. Again, they "fixed" the problem by resetting the error code and test driving the vehicle. Evidently, they don't know what they're doing because the light is on again.

Now I can't get them to answer the phone or return my voicemail messages. (Imagine that)

Anyway, can anyone help with this?

I have a 1992 Jeep Cherokee Laredo, 4.0, automatic transmission. Now when you put it into drive and give it gas, it takes about 1500 rpms before the vehicle will start moving. And then there is no power hardly till you reach about 25 mph, and then it drives normally. If I shift it into 1-2 gear manually, then it has the power that it should have. Someone suggested that the transmission vacuum lines could be leaking. What do you think. Is this a common problem? Thank you for any help you give. Chad

I have a 95 grand cherokee, and I'm putting in a 93 tranny. The torque converter on the 93 4.0 dosent match my 95 ring gear. So i'm going to use the 93 ring gear. Now some holes on the 93 ring gear are not the same as the ones on the 95's [not the bolt holes] witch way should I put in the ring gear ? should I match up where the stamped part # is ? should I try to put the holes as close to the original one's as i can ? if it go's in a little off will the vibration be large ? Could it damage the front torque converter seal ? If anyone has done this or knows about it please get back to me. Thanks

i have a 1995 jeep grand cherokee laredo and just recently started having trouble with the tranny. No warning! It was fine one minute, then the next time I went to pull off it was straining to move. Then I started in 1st gear and it would not change. Then I parked it a while and 2nd and 3rd works. After driving a while, only 1st works again. This has continued for about two weeks. Reverse works fine at all times. The O/D light stays on when 1st and 2nd works, but goes off when only 1st gear works. Has 182K miles. Is this the end or is there a posssible solution? Thanks for your help.
